John C. O'Donnell was Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Department of Music at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. He retired from active teaching in September 2000, and passed away on 25 October 2018.

For almost 50 years "Jack" O'Donnell was involved as musical director of Cape Breton's acclaimed coal miners' choir, the Men of the Deeps. The choir has performed live and on television throughout much of North America, and around the world.

This website is dedicated to sharing information about choral music – particularly, but not exclusively, music for male voice choir (TTBB). It features the music and culture of Cape Breton's coal miners choir the Men of the Deeps, as well as music from other parts of Nova Scotia and Canada, the United States and mining communities from around the world. All of the choral arrangements featured on this website are also available in sheet music form with vocal lines, lyrics, piano accompaniments and guitar chords. As Director of the Men of the Deeps coal miners chorus, Jack O'Donnell had more than fifty years of experience arranging, directing, producing, writing and preparing choral arrangements and sheet music.
